Premium Fitted Sheet FAQs

Does the fitted sheet go first?

Yes, when making a bed, the fitted sheet is typically the first layer that goes on the mattress. The fitted sheet is designed with elasticised edges that help it securely fit around the corners of the mattress, providing a snug and taut surface to lie on.

By placing the fitted sheet first, you create a smooth and comfortable foundation for the rest of the bedding layers. After the fitted sheet, you can add additional layers such as a flat sheet, blankets, duvets, or comforters to complete the bed setup.

How often bed sheets should be changed?

Hemp being antibacterial and microbial does mean if your keeping your bedding on a little longer there is a limited risk of bacterial build-up or mould.

The frequency at which bed sheets should be changed depends on personal preferences, individual circumstances, and factors such as personal hygiene, allergies, and environmental conditions. Here are some general recommendations:

  1. Weekly: As a general guideline, it is often recommended to change bed sheets at least once a week. This helps maintain cleanliness, freshness, and good hygiene.
  2. Allergies or respiratory issues: If you have allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions, more frequent sheet changes may be necessary. Dust mites, pollen, and other allergens can accumulate on bedding, so changing sheets every 3-4 days or more frequently can help minimize symptoms.
  3. Illness or excessive sweating: If you are sick, particularly with a contagious illness, or if you sweat heavily during sleep, it's advisable to change your sheets more frequently to prevent the spread of germs and maintain a clean sleeping environment. In such cases, changing sheets every 2-3 days may be beneficial.
  4. Environmental factors: If you live in a hot and humid climate or if your bedroom tends to be excessively damp, changing sheets more often can help prevent the buildup of moisture and inhibit the growth of bacteria or mold.
  5. Personal preference: Some individuals may simply prefer the feeling of freshly laundered sheets and may choose to change them more frequently based on personal comfort and preference.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and you should adjust the frequency based on your specific needs and circumstances. Regular washing of bed sheets helps maintain cleanliness, comfort, and overall sleep hygiene.

Which bed sheet material is best?

When it comes to bed sheet materials, hemp is an excellent option to consider. As a natural fibre derived from the hemp plant, hemp offers a range of benefits that make it a favourable choice. Hemp bed sheets are known for their durability and strength, as hemp fibres are exceptionally robust. They can withstand regular use and washing without losing their quality.

Hemp sheets also have remarkable breathability, allowing air to circulate and keeping you cool during warm nights. Additionally, hemp is known for its moisture-wicking properties, absorbing moisture from your body and promoting a comfortable and dry sleep environment.

Furthermore, hemp is an eco-friendly choice. It is a highly sustainable crop, requiring minimal water and no pesticides or herbicides for cultivation. Hemp is also biodegradable, making it an environmentally conscious option for those seeking sustainable bedding solutions.

In terms of feel, hemp sheets have a unique texture that becomes softer over time while maintaining their durability. They offer a rustic and natural charm, providing a cozy and inviting sleeping experience.

How to Fold A Fitted Sheet?

Folding a fitted sheet can sometimes be a bit tricky, but with a little practice, you can master the technique. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to fold a fitted sheet:

  1. Start by holding the fitted sheet lengthwise, with the elastic edge facing you and your hands in two adjacent corners.
  2. Take your hands from those corners and tuck them into the corners on the opposite side. Now you should have your hands in two corners that are diagonally opposite to each other.
  3. Cross one hand over the other so that the corner in your right hand is now in your left hand.
  4. Fold the sheet in half vertically, bringing one long side over the other. Make sure to tuck the elastic edges inside to form a neat rectangle.
  5. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases.
  6. Fold the sheet in half again horizontally, bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge.
  7. Fold the sheet into thirds or quarters, depending on your preferred size for storage.

Remember, the key is to keep the elastic edges tucked inside while folding to achieve a tidy result. With practice, you'll become more efficient at folding fitted sheets.

Does the fitted sheet go before the pillow topper?

In some bedding setups, a pillow topper can be placed below the fitted sheet. The pillow topper, known for its plush and cushioned texture, is positioned directly on top of the mattress.

Pillow Topper or mattress protectors provides an extra layer of comfort and support, enhancing the overall sleeping experience. Following the placement of the pillow topper, the fitted sheet is then carefully placed over it, covering both the mattress and the pillow topper. The fitted sheet, with its elasticised edges, ensures a secure and snug fit, keeping the layers in place while offering a smooth and comfortable surface for sleeping. By arranging the bedding in this order, you create a cozy and indulgent sleeping environment.

When were fitted sheets invented?

Hemp has been used for bed linen for centuries, offering durability and comfort. Fitted sheets were invented in the late 19th century as a practical solution to keep bed linens secure. Prior to fitted sheets, flat sheets were common but prone to wrinkling and shifting during sleep.
